Homemade Barbeque Sauce
I realized after making barbeque sauce that it is usually intended for slathering on meat, something I don't really do, so I sent this sauce on it's way as a gift. For you meat lovers, I can't imagine how awesome it would be for you to try this delicious homemade sauce on the very thing it was made for.
BBQ Sauce
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
1 medium-sized sweet onion, chopped finely
3-4 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp red pepper flake (maybe less)
22-oz crushed tomatoes or a 28oz can
1/3 cup molasses
1/3 cup white vinegar + 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp yellow or dijon mustard
-Saute the onion in the oil, then add the garlic and let cook 5-7 minutes
-Add the remaining ingredients except the mustard and cook for 30-40 minutes or until it has reduced and thickened (low heat)
-Add the mustard at the end, add more of certain ingredients to fit your taste
-Blend if you want, or leave it chunky!
*I used 28 oz of plain tomato sauce (it was all I had) and honey mustard instead of yellow or dijon. I ended up adding more molasses by the end to create a better balance of sweet and spicy, and I also added an extra 1-2 tbsp of sugar.

Ok, I will give this barbeque sauce a try. I am new at this BBQ'g thing; I want to try everything. I just got a Weber Q 320 gas grill. It is fairly easy to use and does a good job cooking most foods. I will try your bbq sauce the next time I do ribs.
[Reply]Hi, is it possible to use brown sugar in this recipe? Many Thanks.
[Reply]@Anonymous I don't see why you can't use brown sugar - brown sugar is basically molasses and sugar. I would just keep in mind that the recipe calls for 1/3 c molasses and only 2 tbsp of sugar, so try to find a happy medium unless you like your BBQ sauce sweet!
[Reply]GREAT! barbecue sauce recipe! I, too, used tomato sauce. Definitely added more red pepper flakes than the amount called for (2-3 tablespoons) ~ just a personal taste preference! Thank you for posting this recipe with pictures!
