Waffles & Pancakes Galore!

These waffles opened my eyes to the world of waffles and pancakes. Since ordering these Belgian waffles with cranberries, goat cheese, and cinnamon at Urban Vintage in Brooklyn, I have had mad waffle cravings. The crispy exterior, fluffy interior, and combination of sweet tangy cranberries with smooth, almost savory goat cheese made me want to eat three more orders. Then, upon returning home to my antique waffle maker, I realized Belgian waffles are in a league of their own. My relatively flat waffle maker cannot compete, so I will be heading to goodwill in the very near future where I can always find a wide variety of waffle makers and various kitchen appliances for under $10.

Panino, Not Panini

In college I took an Italian class, and one particular memory I have was the day my teacher became frustrated with all of us kids confusing "panini" with "panino". In Italian, the word "panini" is the plural form, meaning "sandwiches", while the word "panino" is the singular, meaning "sandwich". So to say "Let's make paninis", you are really saying something like "Let's make sanwicheses"... not quite as exotic sounding anymore, is it?

Chickpea Spread

Chickpea based recipes for salads and spreads have been emerging from food bloggers' kitchens all over the place, so I decided to try my hand at this new idea. Sure, it's already been done, but not by me!
